10 Gorgeous Golf Course Community Homes in Southwest Florida

By: | | Share Tweet Email

With an average year round temperature of 73 degrees, Southwest Florida has a long history with the sport of golf. In fact,  Sarasota was home to one of the first golf courses in the United States when Colonel John Hamilton Gillespie cleared a spot in the woods in 1886 near present-day downtown to build a practice course consisting of two greens and one long fairway. In 1904, he followed it up with a nine-hole golf course near what is now Main Street, east of Links Avenue, on 110 acres.
