Sarasota Summer Happenings

Summers sizzle in Sarasota and ThisWeekInSarasota.com is here to make sure you stay cool
by keeping you “in the know” of the latest and greatest events happening in and around
the city. From “Sunset Bridge Runs” and “Chill Yoga Classes” to late night hot spots and
sidewalk cafes, the sunny city on the bay has something you can connect with.
See for yourself—peruse Sarasota’s Master Calendar and see how easy it is to live in
our breezy town on the bay.
After lively weekends on the town, residents find inner chill on Siesta
Key for Sunset Tai Chi at beach access five. Equipped with yoga digs and
sun salutations, locals find respite for the coming week in this free and
unique Siesta recreation. After your practice, join the hospitable key
residents in one of the classic Siesta Key Beach Village hangouts. The
”come as you are” attitude of the key is sure to embrace you (even if
you are covered in sand) in one of the most welcoming environments in
the country.
On the mainland, summer is simmering and keeping cool is easy with the fresh mint leaves of a
mojito in one of the 50+ locally owned restaurants. The food scene is prepping new menus
for the season and inviting summer visitors and locals to help sample new flavors. Foodies
are dazzled with tastes from around the world due to the diverse group of international
cuisine. To see current foodie finds in and around the city, click here. As always, our
opinion is “no dinner is complete without a show,” so check out one of the many area
performances at one of the cultural venues.
Every sun-filled day in a beach community is made for relaxing, but Saturdays top the
charts for chilling. From gardening classes at Selby Gardens, art exhibits at Ringling
or marine classes at Mote, the summer offers something for all interests. Our favorite
Saturday hangout is Downtown Farmers’ Market on the Corner of Main and Lemon.
Chefs, tourists, locals and four-legged friends all gather to enjoy fresh coffee,
organic veggies, direct-from-the-boat seafood, spices, and orchids. Don’t forget to
check out Divinia Jeans Chocolate Heaven located two blocks to the north on Lemon for
a weekly diva party after the market. It’s a perfect Saturday tradition filled with
camaraderie, uniqueness, and, of course, chocolate.
Speaking of unique, summer learning is fantastically interactive for kids of all
ages. Take the Lido Turtle Walks, for example. Where else can a Ritz certified biologist
from Mote Marine Lab take you on a discovery to identify and learn about sea turtles
and their nests? Eco-friendly and educational, these walks have sculpted the lives of
kids and adults by educating the benefits of our natural splendor. Read more about them by clicking here.
As always, enjoy the place we have chosen to call home. There are over 2,000 activities
taking place over the next 30 days, so take a gander at Sarasota’s Master Calendar and
participate in the part of the country we call paradise.
