During ArchiFest 2018, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune’s Harold Bubil moderated a series of panels celebrating the built environment in Sarasota. For the first panel of the day, he sat down with Cynthia P. McCague, member of the Board of the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization. She provided an overview of The Bay Sarasota, a city-led initiative to redevelop 53-acres of city-owned land lining Sarasota Bay near the Van Wezel. Watch this video to learn more about the initiative, the new potential design schemes for re-imagining the bayfront, a discussion surrounding the future of the iconic Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, and a look at the immediate timeline.

Since filming, the survey has been completed and the design firm, Sasaki, is working on a master plan combining features of all three designs. The design team will reconvene in Sarasota on May 21st and May 22nd to consider the Draft Master Plan, and again in June for the Final Master Plan.  On September 6th, Sasaki will present the master plan to the City Commission, likely combining all three designs.
