We know the national media coverage is focused on Hurricane Irma’s impact on the entire state of Florida and the Caribbean. Some areas suffered great damage by Irma, one of the most powerful hurricanes to make landfall in the Caribbean and Florida in decades. We are so thankful and grateful that the counties we serve – Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and the northern part of Lee – experienced a much-weakened Irma. We were largely spared the worst – all in all we fared much better than other parts of the state.
Thankfully, our team has reported minimal damage to properties in and around their own neighborhoods, as well as to our customers’ homes. Some areas are still without power and internet service, there is some flooding along the Myakka River, and there are many uprooted trees and much debris. We are proud of the resiliency and patience our residents have shown as they wait for the restoration of power and other services. We sincerely thank the county, city and public service workers for their tireless restoration efforts.
Most of our Michael Saunders & Company offices have power, internet, and are open for business. For the offices without phones – the MSC answering service is in place and communicating with each office as necessary via cellular service. As of September 13th, thirteen of our offices are operating as normal including our Support Services: MSC Mortgage, MSC Title and MSC Rental.
Regarding real estate transactions currently in progress, please know that post-Irma, there will be a potential impact on closing dates, and many of you may have questions for your agents. Our associates are working closely with all partners to ensure that transactions continue to run as smoothly as possible.
As we clean up from Irma, we have heard touching stories within the company and community of people coming together, collaborating, and going out of their way to help others. It’s often the toughest of times that showcase the best in all. As we focus on regaining power and cleaning up our neighborhoods, if you seek greater involvement, here are a few ways you can help with the relief and recovery efforts in our area:
- The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has established the Hurricane Irma Relief Fund: https://www.cfsarasota.org/
- Gulf Coast Community Foundation has activated the Gulf Coast Disaster Fund: https://www.gulfcoastcf.org/
- The Manatee Community Foundation has put into place the Disaster Relief Fund at Manatee Community Foundation: http://www.manateecf.org
- The Charlotte Community Foundation along with the United Way of Charlotte County and Southwest Florida Community Foundation have partnered together to respond to the significant devastation left in Hurricane Irma’s wake: https://www.charlottecf.org/
All of these Foundations will be coordinating relief funds to local charities in our communities to ensure that those with the greatest needs are being assisted. Your help to any of these organizations would be greatly appreciated to assist with the ongoing relief efforts.
One of the most impactful things, pre-and post-Irma, were the prayers, well wishes and support from people near and far.
