This week’s Corner Office podcast, hosted by Business Observer Managing Editor Mark Gordon, features our Founder and CEO Michael Saunders and President Drayton Saunders.
During the engaging 26-minute discussion, Michael and Drayton delve into many topics, including the company’s origins and future, the invaluable lessons learned from mistakes, and the importance of passion and people.
Michael says that pushing boundaries and making mistakes go hand in hand. “If you don’t make mistakes, you’re not pushing hard enough and you’re not reaching far enough,” she says. She emphasized the importance of quickly learning from mistakes, changing course without dwelling on the past and not repeating the same errors.
After investing nearly five decades in building the company, Michael remains passionate about real estate, people and her work.
“You can retire from a lot of things, but I don’t think you can retire from passion. Real estate really defines me. I wake up every day, as does Drayton, thinking about how we can make this company just a little bit better. So as long as I have that passion, I don’t see retirement anywhere in my near future.”
Drayton, who has been with the company for 20 years and became President in 2010, shares Michael’s passion.
“For me, it’s not work; it’s what I get to do,” he says. “It’s really the gift that Michael opened the door to…it’s the passion and excitement of being in a company that I respect, and competing to show what we do and that it makes a difference, and that’s a really special challenge.”
