Spring is a perfect time to freshen up your home before Florida’s heat and humidity settle in for the next few months. Tackling bigger tasks that aren’t part of your daily routine can feel overwhelming, so make a list of everything you want to accomplish, and remember, you don’t have to do it all in one day.
Whether you’re planning to sell your home this spring or still weighing your options, here are a few spring-cleaning tips to get you started.
Boost curb appeal
You only get one chance to make a good first impression, and it all starts with how people size up your home before even stepping inside. Here are a few simple ways to enhance your property’s curb appeal: pressure-wash the exterior, sidewalk and driveway, trim trees and shrubs, weed and clean out flowerbeds, add attractive plants and top it off with a fresh layer of mulch.
Clear the clutter
Go through closets, cabinets and drawers, and if you haven’t worn or used something for more than a year or two, chances are you might be able to live without it. Toss or donate unwanted items, then organize the things you want to keep and store them.
Make your windows shine
Washing grimy windows is a must, and while you’re at it, you also might want to give your blinds some attention, since they tend to be a magnet for dust and pet hair. It’s a time-consuming chore, but sparkling windows with a clear view will be well worth the effort.
Deep clean kitchen and bathrooms
The center of activity in many households, the kitchen occasionally needs more than just the usual cleaning. Set aside time to wipe down cabinets, appliance surfaces, backsplash and walls, empty out the fridge and clean the shelves, and scrub the oven and microwave. And beyond the usual bathroom cleaning, go a step further by removing mineral deposits and mildew buildup on faucet and shower heads, and don’t forget to scour the grout.
Ceiling-to-floor cleaning
While shelves and furniture get a cursory dusting from time to time, some areas tend to get neglected or forgotten, including ceiling fans, baseboards, light fixtures and corner walls. After these areas are dirt-free, it’s time to thoroughly clean floors, shampoo rugs and carpets and clear out any lingering dust in the corners so your home will be spick-and-span.
Once you’ve spruced up your home, you’ll be one step closer to moving forward with your home-selling plans or you can just sit back and revel in your sparkly clean surroundings.
