This year, Memorial Day is Monday, May 28th. It is a time when we gather to honor the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in service to our country. In Sarasota, Charlotte, and Manatee Counties, there are a number of events designed to commemorate this holiday. We are sharing a list of some of our top patriotic picks in the Saunders in 60 and below.
National Moment of Remembrance
May 28, 2018; 3pm
Established by Congress, the National Moment of Remembrance asks Americans to pause wherever they are at 3pm on Memorial Day as an act of national unity for a duration of one minute.
Memorial Day at Sarasota National Cemetery
Saturday, May 26, 2018; 10am
Special guests, dignitaries, and local artists will gather for a program to honor America’s fallen soldiers and their families at Patriot Plaza. Free admission. Ceremony starts at 10am. 9810 State Rd 72 in Sarasota.
“A Tribute to Heroes” Memorial Day Parade
Sunday, May 27, 2018; 6pm-8pm
Main Street in Lakewood Ranch will be hosting a parade featuring local bands, choirs, drum lines, dance teams, floats, a kid-decorated bike contest, food, drink, and live entertainment. Pre-parade block party starts at 6pm. Parade is 7pm-8pm.
Sarasota Memorial Day Parade

Sarasota’s Main Street is the site of the annual Memorial Day Parade where this year’s theme is “All Gave Some. Some Gave All.” The parade will start from Osprey and Main with an 11am ceremony held at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at the west end of Main Street.
Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans’ Monument Park

In Bradenton, a ceremony will be held at Veterans’ Monument Park where the keynote speaker will be Brigadier General Richard Blunt.
7th Annual Myakka River Blues Festival
Monday, May 28, 2018; 11am-6pm
The Rusty Wright Band from Michigan will be the headliner for the 7th Annual Myakka River Blues Festival on Memorial Day. Two stages of nonstop music will set the scene for blues and festivities. Tickets: $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door. 11a.m.- 6 p.m. Snook Haven Restaurant on the Myakka River. 5000 E Venice Ave, Venice, FL.
Annual Venice Area Memorial Day Ceremony
Monday, May 28, 2018; 10am
Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8118, all the areas Veterans Organizations will be participating in this ceremony held at Patriots Park in Venice. Open to the public and you are encouraged to bring a folding chair. Located just north of the intersection of US 41 Baypass North and US 41 Business. Following the services at Patriots Park, American Legion NO-VEL Post 159 will continue their tradition of hosting an open house at their Post Home, 1770 E. Venice Ave., Venice, FL.
Annual Memorial Day Concert

The Sarasota Concert Band will play patriotic music at Phillippi Estate Park. Lawn chairs and coolers welcome. Adults $5, 12 and under are free. 5500 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231.
Memorial Day Veterans 10K and 5K Race

Punta Gorda is hosting its 5th annual Memorial Day Race with proceeds benefiting local Veterans. The race begins and ends at Laishely Park. Registration for the race is now full.
