Doughnuts on Deck
A new doughnut shop is coming to East Ringling Boulevard! The Five-O Donut Co will serve up classic and filled varieties, with gluten-free and vegan options too. The shop is the latest sweet endeavor from Christine Nordstrom, who runs the popular bakery Sift Bakehouse, as well as several baked-goods stands at farmers’ markets throughout the area. Its location at 2241 Ringling Boulevard is in the same strip as the Shamrock Pub, a spot that has been quiet but will see growth in the coming years— including a 222-unit apartment property across the street.
Make Way for the Braves
While the deal is not completely done, it looks like the Atlanta Braves will have a new Florida Spring Training home in 2019. City commissioners recently approved outlines of an agreement for construction of a $75 million baseball facility in North Port. The Braves have been on the lookout for a new training ground to place them closer to other teams, including the Orioles who train at Ed Smith stadium in Sarasota.
Park and Play on St. Armands
A new, much-needed parking garage is in the works on St. Armands Circle. Merchants and property owners on the Circle have long been eager to add more parking to the commercial district. In early March, the team behind the project outlined the big picture for the 520-space garage on North Adams Drive. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2018, with opening slated for December 2018.
