When I first discovered Towles Court in Sarasota it was very much by accident. This lovely artist colony is kind of like Narnia - an enchanting destination that you wouldn’t even know existed unless you happened to stumble upon it. In fact, even once you know it’s there, it can be hard to replicate your journey and find it once more.
Towles Court is a surprising and delightful destination in Sarasota. All photography by Cliff Roles.
However, once you set eyes upon this historic enclave of bungalows and cottages you may become seduced by its bohemian charm, creativity, and imagination.
Located west of US 301 and south of Ringling Blvd, you’ll find in Towles Court various art studios, galleries, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. Beautiful bungalows mix with moss-draped oak trees and picturesque walking paths. From blown glass to pottery and jewelry, each studio offers something both unique and splendid.
The best time to visit is during the monthly art walk! Every third Friday from 6-10pm, the colony celebrates the creativity within – galleries are open, tasty treats and drinks are offered, live music is performed, and each visitor can stroll from shop to shop with an appreciative eye for the art. Hours are typically Tuesday through Saturday from 11-4. For directions (via car and not wardrobe) and more information, visit the Towels Court website.
