Enter to win: MSC has your energy bill covered this summer

“Home” took on a new meaning in 2020. Well beyond our four walls, home extended to the community that supports our wellbeing. Heroism was all around us – from the first responders putting their lives at risk every day to the people and organizations working fervently to keep the lights on for their employees, volunteers, and families.

As we move toward our hottest months and highest electric bills of the year, Michael Saunders & Company wants to give back to the community.

In celebration of 45 years of exceptional real estate service, Michael Saunders and Company is proud to announce the HOME Powered by Michael Saunders & Company sweepstakes.

Between July and August, MSC will pay 45 electric bills for residents across the Gulf Coast. Following the 45 days of giveaways, a grand prize winner will have their electric bill paid for six months AND have the opportunity to select a charity to receive a one-time $X,XXX donation in their name.

The contest is open to only those outside of Michael Saunders & Company (both agents and staff) to ensure a fair selection of winners.

Tune in to ABC 7 daily between July 6th and August 19th to see if you're a winner!

Here are some other great ways to lower your energy bill, so your money can be put toward the people, causes, and things you love.

  • Upgrade to a smart thermostat These programmable wonders can save you between 10-12% on heating and cooling by simply learning your habits. Smart thermostats automatically adjust to keep you comfortable when home and save while you are away.

  • Check home insulation Outside air entering your home makes it harder and more expensive to cool your interior spaces. If you notice your bill is higher than usual, it may be a good time to check around door and window frames to make sure there’s no “air leakage.” If there is, caulking and weather stripping are effective air-sealing techniques that offer quick returns.

  • Clean air conditioning vents and units Clean saves you green. A/C units should be inspected, cleaned and serviced at least once a year. The rule of thumb is that heating should be checked in fall and air-conditioning in the spring – just before you need them.

  • Work with your environment – If you’re expecting a cooler summer night, open windows and doors to naturally ventilate your home. Similarly, if you have rooms that receive abundant natural light, invest in blinds and drapes that can block the sun when those rooms are not in use.

  • Get outside When possible, swap the time you would normally be at home for time outdoors enjoying the many amenities right in your backyard.
