Preparing for Idalia and the rest of hurricane season

With the National Hurricane Center predicting that Idalia will be a Category 3 hurricane when it makes landfall early Wednesday somewhere along Florida’s Gulf Coast, now is the time to make sure your storm preparations are in place if you haven’t already done so. Even if Idalia doesn’t hit our tri-county area, some of its effects will likely be felt across our region, with strong wind gusts and potential power outages. Although hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, it’s important to remember that the peak of the season is Sept. 10, with the most activity occurring between mid-August and mid-October, according to the Hurricane Center. So be sure to stock up now on supplies like bottled water, non-perishable food items, batteries and a first-aid kit. For a comprehensive hurricane preparation guide, view Sarasota ABC 7’s 2023 First Alert Hurricane Guide for valuable tips, information and resources in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties.
