Is it nearly Labor Day already? Yes, somehow the year has flown by and the holiday where we take the day to celebrate the achievements of the American worker has arrived once more. And if Labor Day has caught you unawares, we have some excellent ideas to make this extended weekend a memorable one whether you are in Sarasota, Manatee, or Charlotte County!
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
The Sarasota Sailing Squadron is hosting their 69th Annual Labor Day Regatta September 4-6 where sailors from across the US and Canada compete on Sarasota Bay. (Back up to the part where this is their 69th (!) annual competition; nearly seven decades has made this Sarasota’s oldest continually run sporting event.) Five separate races, live music, barbecue, refreshments and an awards ceremony are sure to keep spectators entertained. Free to attend. View the Sarasota Sailing Squadron website for more information.
Celebrate the Pioneering Spirit
The entire community of Englewood comes out to participate in one of the region’s most treasured traditions, Pioneer Days! Two weeks of celebrations offer an array of activities from a shipwreck dance, to a car show, pie eating contest, parade, and the beloved cardboard boat races. Head to the Englewood Pioneer Days website for more.
Saddle Up For Snook
Put on your favorite cowboy hat and head to the 3rd Annual Country Fest at Snook Haven. Enjoy live music, BBQ and local craft beers while cooling off down by the Myakka River. Tickets are $10. To learn more, visit the event Facebook page.
Florida’s Gulf Coast is a well-known nautical playground. Hop on a boat or cast your line on the Gulf, Bays, and Intracoastal Waterway. Or head to sand bar in big pass, anchor your boat, and play on the sand with shimmering turquoise waters surrounding you on all sides!
With exceptional sales to be had and shops open all day, Labor Day is prime holiday for the retail experience. Shop till you drop at the University Town Center Mall in the University Park and Lakewood Ranch area, Ellenton Prime Outlets in Ellenton, or St. Armands Circle on Lido Key.
Spend it on the Sand
Have you been dreaming of clearing your day and doing nothing but laying out in the sand, listening to the sound of the waves, and cooling of in the Gulf? Well now you can catch some rays and maybe even grill to your heart’s content from the many grilling sites provided by the county. And if you are looking for a Gulf Coast beach that’s bustling with activity, Siesta Beach, Manatee Beach (on Holmes Beach), or Lido Beach may be the destination for you. Word-to-the-wise, get there early if you want a good parking spot and a choice place to plant your umbrella.
With a 3-day weekend in store, why not spend part of your Sunday touring exceptional Sarasota homes for sale? Visit michaelsaunders.com to view Manatee, Charlotte, and Sarasota open houses.
