Founded as a lemon grove, the first home buyers in Grove City were required to grow lemon trees. New Point Comfort was the original location of Bass Marine Labs, which was the precursor to Mote Marine Laboratory. Today, residents enjoy protected natural splendor, water access from several public boat ramps and canals, and proximity to beaches, parks, shopping, and dining. Grove City continues to change, and newer condos and homes with contemporary designs are mixed with the classic Florida-style homes originally built from the 1960s to 1980s. The predominantly single-story ranch homes are in a non-deed restricted neighborhood. Prime vacant land parcels in Grove City allow for the opportunity of new home construction.
