The latest interviewee for our continuing blog series, 23 About Me, is the Director of Michael Saunders & Company’s Commercial Group, Dennis Dahm. With the company for over twenty years, read on to learn about his passion for being on the water, what instrument he could use some practice with, and “why good things come to those who bait”.
Choose one: country estate, city penthouse or beachfront living? Beachfront living. I am a true water person…Scorpio.
What is your favorite ice cream? All of the above! If I can only select one I would start with chocolate. Favorite cuisine? My wife’s fried chicken or pork chops, with rice and field peas, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, and a homemade biscuit. A real southern dish...the meal and my wife. What is the last book you read? Tom Clancy’s Clear and Present Danger. How did you first find your way to this area? My first trip was when I was five years old (60 years ago) with my parents and grandparents. We travelled the entire coast of Florida and ended up at a small motel on the beach on north Manasota Key. Do you have a special talent? I play the piano, but I am really out of practice. I can also snap my fingers backwards. How did you spend your childhood summers? Training and showing horses throughout Michigan and Ohio…hunters and jumpers. If you could vacation anywhere in the world where would it be? Anywhere with great mountains and great beaches - like Hawaii. Choose one: Boating, golfing, or the Arts? Boating…preferably fishing, ideally catching.
What living person do you most admire? My wife. I have loved her for 30 years; which isn’t bad since we have been together for 35 years. What is your greatest extravagance? Most likely jewelry if she reads the previous question. What do you love about working with Michael Saunders & Company? It has never been boring over the twenty years I have been here. I also have always been proud to say I work at Michael Saunders & Company. What restaurant do you go to more than any other? Divino on Main Street. What is the prettiest place you have been locally? Any sunrise or sunset on any of our exceptional beaches. What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday? Surf fishing off the beach at the end of Boca Grande with my wife. When you have friends visit from out of town, where do you take them? Boca Grande or Manasota Key. What do you like to cook? Steaks on the grill. What is your favorite TV show? The Blacklist. Any South Carolina Gamecocks football game Name one thing on your bucket list: To be good at skeet shooting. What did you want to be when you were little? A veterinarian. Also a jet pilot. What is your most treasured possession? The flag that was on my father’s casket.
