How do you tell the story of a unique property in a way that is interesting while also defining the essence of the house and the community? Well, if you live in Sarasota, where the sea and sky marries arts and culture, then the canvas for creativity is as endless as the shimmering Gulf horizon. Such was the background for a recent collaboration between
Michael Saunders & Company and the
Sarasota Ballet. To showcase
1459 Bay Point Drive, a remarkable 8,506 square foot home for sale on Sarasota Bay, the unprecedented team used the language of dance to express the property’s architecture, emotion, and enchantment. A Look Behind-the-Scenes
The house itself was largely the inspiration for the project. The MSC Marketing Team was tasked with coming up with an "out of the box" idea to promote the property listed by
Realtors Kim and Michael Ogilvie. With it's stately rooms, whimsical architecture, and evocative open spaces, one of the ideas was
to create a property video centered around a ballerina. Once the homeowners were presented with the possibility, they were intrigued and the Marketing Team got to work!

It was one thing to imagine a ballerina in a house; it was quite another to give her a purpose for being there and make it come to life. After throwing around ideas - from a statue that awakens, to a dancer who's fallen in love with a cellist the next painting over - we decided on an enchanted character that came out of a painting whenever the house was empty. Then, the opportunity presented itself to work alongside the internationally-renowned
Sarasota Ballet.

The beautiful paintings in the video were actually done using photography!
Mark Palmer (our director from
Mars Vision Productions) shot our star,
Victoria Hulland, on a white backdrop. Photoshop played a key role in adding the wooded scene and providing a painter effect.

We created three different "paintings" - one where Victoria is looking straight ahead, one where she is absent, and one where she's glancing at the viewer with a knowing smirk.

One of the really interesting behind-the-scenes aspects is that the entire ballet element alludes to
Giselle, a romantic ballet the Sarasota Ballet produced several seasons ago. Victoria actually played the title character in their production. Her pose in the painting is the classic Giselle pose. What's more, the music is from Giselle composed by Adolphe Adam.

In the video, the homeowners faces were purposefully kept off-camera so that the audience can easily imagine themselves in the story. You may recognize the wife here (it's me) and my husband was played by my real-life husband! (Thanks sweetie!)

The real magic on the set was in watching Victoria - anything she did was beautiful and pretty much perfect.

I had to pinch myself because there were times it certainly felt like I was in a fairytale.
Mike Marraccini (center), the Sales and Marketing Director for the Sarasota Ballet, was integral in making this video happen.

The crew from Mars Vision Productions were always on point and captured amazing moments throughout the day.

A major goal was making sure we recorded everything we needed around sunset! There is really only a good 20 minutes when the lighting is perfect for the camera. The entire team was running around as quickly as possible to maximize mother nature's background.
